A Day in the Life of a Redlands Electrical Technician - Part 3

We like efficient and focused employees. Being able to trust in your employees and know they’re committed to their work is really vital for any business, especially in the electrical trade - our work ensures residential needs are met and commercial infrastructure is maintained. It’s easy to get so concerned with the day-to-day grind that you don’t notice or recognise the people around you who are going through the 9-to-5 just like you.

So we thought we’d take you through an average work day for Dan, our hypothetical mixture of your average Redlands Electrical Technician, and show you what kind of work goes into being the foremost Electrician Wimbledon clients call to meet their needs.

If you didn’t catch them - here’s the LINKS http://redlands29.beep.com/ to the first part of this blog. That said - let’s catch up with Dan and Co, and see the day holds for them!

4:45 PM

Pulling into the depot finally, Keith and Dan check in with their colleagues and quickly inventory the tools and equipment, making a note of what they need to restock. After that, Keith finishes for the day and Dan clarifies his schedule for the following day before leaving himself.
Negotiating the M25 and mishaps of the run home and finally parks up outside his home. Pushing his way through the door he picks up Jane - she’s made a horse out of clay school and wants to show him - and heads in.

6:20 PM

Marie cooks dinner, whilst Dan sits down with the girls to help them with English homework. Whilst he has workable Maths, he leaves Math homework to their mother whilst he deals with words and spelling. They eat, still talking about what the girls learned and what they needed help with. After, they go play whilst Dan and Marie clear up and flirt in equal measure. It being 6-years since their marriage doesn’t matter.

7:30 PM

With his two girls tiredly saying that they’re not tired, Dan takes them up to bed and settles them down for the night. He puts the clay horse on a shelf, kisses the girls good night and turns out the light.
Changing out of his work clothes and into some night clothes, he heads down stairs to watch the evenings television with Marie. He yawns at the TV - mocking the personalities and advertisements and taking about where they should take the family on holiday.

10:30 PM

Finishing the evenings TV viewing together, Dan and Marie turn in. He peers into the girls bedroom to make sure they are sound-asleep, then gets ready for bed. Climbing in he cosies up to Marie, kisses her goodnight and settles down. Briefly he thinks about the people he talked to and the conservations and touches upon what he needs to do tomorrow before fully drifting off. Another day tomorrow …
Whilst Dan and his family may be fictional the work and day-to-day he experiences isn’t because its true in some degree to the lives of many of our staff. We have families, friends here and elsewhere and a whole lot of stuff going on - but we don’t scrimp on our commitment to our clients and supply the best electrician Surbiton residents could ask for.

A Day in the Life of a Redlands Electrical Technician - Part 2

If you didn’t catch it - here’s a link http://redlands29.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/a-day-in-life-of-redlands-electrical.html to the first part of this blog. That said - let’s catch up with Dan and Co, and see the day holds for them!

10:00 AM

First job of the day is a quick inspection of a storage warehouse’s wiring, and him and Keith work together to trace each wire from source to source, it’s voltage and ensure that it’s safe working order. Filling out the necessary paperwork for health-and-safety and making a receipt for recommended work, the two finish up. Keith is pretty certain they’ll be back to re-wire, due to the age of the premises. Dan agrees, and they set off for the next job.

11:25 AM

The next job is a bit more involved - installing, wiring and testing power supplies for an entire office space of computers, devices and equipment. After bringing up the necessary tools, equipment and wire spools the boys get to work; choosing to start from opposite ends of the office.

They put together and install power sockets and run them behind PVC cable boxes on the walls. It’s hard work and frustrating at points, but Keith keeps things light by telling Dan about his weekend and the trouble he got himself into in the funniest way ever with his Yorkshire accent. After two-and-a-half hours they are done, and the office has electricity. Keith and Dan high-five and quickly pack up. Another receipt written off and its onto lunch before the job.

2:10 PM

Dan throws away yet-another chocolate bar wrapper as Keith mocks him for even bothering as they arrive at another office - this time two install a pair of security cameras inside-and-out of the main entrance to replace two they previously took down. Up on a ladder its a fidgety and awkward job, but it’s one of dozens of installations him and Keith have done. They even joked about betting who could get theirs installed and working first on the way there.

Dan wins by twenty minutes, and helps Keith get his working as well. With the security staff satisfied, they fetch a clerk from upstairs to sign the receipt and the two complete the last job of the day early - sharing a quick conversation with the security about the up-and-coming Euros footballl championship and who their pick to win is before packing up and heading back.

Keep up with our blog to see how Dan wraps his day up and what he does to wind down! Click here for more detail.

A Day in the Life of a Redlands Electrical Technician - Part 1

5:30 AM

Dan’s phone vibrates insistently and tones on the dresser, waking him up for the day. Yawning with a stretch, he shushes his wife Marie back to sleep and fumbles his way out of the bed sheets. After a minute to greet the toilet he jumps in the shower quickly and then gets dressed in his work clothes. He thinks he’s getting a bit fat and resolves to avoid the traditional lunch break chocolate bar.

He wakes his two daughters Jane, 6, and Erica, also 6, and gets them into the bathroom to brush their teeth and wash their faces; getting them dressed before heading downstairs. Marie joins him making breakfast - a small full English each - and sit down to eat. Dan splits his attention between the Paper and his daughters squabbling over this-and-that. Looking up at the clock, he sees its 7:30 now - so he kisses his family good-bye, throws on his jacket and jumps in his work van.

8:25 AM

Setting out from home Dan is wishing for a day where he finds the M25 miraculously clear into London … and is immediately disappointed with a snarl up. Great …

Whilst waiting in traffic he takes a call from home (Erica lost her schoolbag, which Dan immediately points Marie too), calls ahead to work, double-checking his first job of the day and let them know the traffic situation and huffing about the traffic; scratching his shaved head in impatience before switching on the radio for some morning music.

9:13 AM

Finally pulling up to the Redlands Electricals depot, he jumps out of the van and heads into the office to speak to his supervisor - explains why he’s late - and is paired with Keith for the day. After checking and loading up on necessary tools and supplies - they set out.

Keep posted with our blog to find out how his day goes! For more information on Electrician Surbiton you can visit at: http://www.redlandselectrical.co.uk/index.php/areas-covered/electrician-surbiton/
